Big Bank In Print

A bit of news for all you Irish readers. Big Bank is now being published in the monthly You And Your Money magazine as of yesterday.

Zack And Miri Make A Rant

When I started this blog I said that I intended it to be for artwork and the odd rant. Well, I reckon I've put up enough of the former to justify a lash at the latter. If you're looking for proper movie review, look elsewhere. This ain't notin but a tirade. So here goes...
My girlfriend and I saw Zack And Miri Make A Porno last night and holy shit, it's bad. Laura asked me just before it started 'this is a Kevin Smith movie, right?'. 'Yeah' I thought, 'but we shouldn't hold that against it'. To be honest, the only reason I'd inflict another Kevin Smith movie on myself is 'cos the trailer for this effort actually looked good. I won't go on much as this isn't a review site (and this ain't much of a review!) but when Smith tries to make a genuienly sincere and tender moment, it comes off as hokey and as badly done as the same in a real porno. Saints preserve us!
There's a moment in the movie when Seth Rogen's character (indistinguishable from every other Seth Rogen character) gets a brainwave and announces to his film crew 'I've got it, everyone meet me here tomorrow and I'll be back in the morning with a script'. I can't imagine this is too far removed from what Smith announced when he concieved this can of manure. Come back Judd Apatow, all is forgiven! Okay, enough ranting, back to the artwork!

Comedy Posters

Anyone know why loads of posters for comedies these days depict the stars as looking dumb/dazed?! Beats me!

Big Bank Ltd

It's been quiet around here lately. I've been working on a few freelance things aswell as this - 'Big Bank Ltd' is gonna be a weekly online strip very soon, written by 'Willzy' and illustrated by myself. It'll be a whole new blog so I'll post up more details when I have them.

These sketches where done over the past couple of nights as for the last few weeks I've had a few commisions to get out the door (I'm not complaining!). Hopefully now I'll be able to give this blog the good kick up the arse it needs!

So the dust has settled on the new Indiana Jones movie. I've seen it three times so far and my final take on it is that I love it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone can condone the Tarzan bit but all in all I think it fits in well with the other three and in my opinion is third best after 'Raiders' and 'Crusade'. Right then, back to reality!

Baby Jane

Bette Davis as the terrifying Baby Jane Hudson.

Well, I got my cast off a few weeks ago and have been limbering up my hand since. This is the first real sketch I've done since I got the cast off as I had a few jobs backed up to do. This is just a quick doodle of Indiana Jones. Not long to wait now!

Boulder Postcard

Well my arm is still fecked, so I'm still out of the drawing game. I'm in the hospital on monday so hopefully they'll decide to take the bleedin' cast off then. Think good thoughts! Anywho, just to keep the posts coming, here's a postcard I did for our company last year to inform people of our change of address.

The Little Fecker!

Well the posts have been coming in slow due to me working on stuff for other people and/or being too lazy to do anything of my own! Now the post's are gonna grind to a halt for a couple of weeks as my arm's in a cast. Our little maniacal dog, Kenobi (above) got out the front door during the weekend. Fearful that the wee f*%ker was going to run out under a car I dove for him as he ran past me. I ended up with a fractured bone in my drawing hand for my troubles! He thinks it was the best fun ever though!

Freddy Kruger - The Animated Adventures

Bad news folks! My Exorcist kid's show got turned down at the last minute. The executives were saying that they didn't like the 'religious element'. Oh well. Above is my new kid's show pitch and to make it a bit more palatable for producers, I'm gonna give Freddy a cute sidekick called 'Sammy Squirrel'.

Alison Goldfrapp is back with a great new album.

The Exorcist:The Animated Series

Here's a concept for an animated series of 'The Exorcist'. It's getting great feedback from all the kids networks!

Judd Apatow

With the imminent release of the apparently homogeneous 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall', it's a case of 'another month, another Judd Apatow-produced comedy'!

Experiencing Technical Difficulties

There was a time period of about five days a couple of weeks ago that I didn't pick up a pen and paper and I'm paying for it now! Everything I draw looks crappy and I need to get back into the swing of it again. That'll learn me for sitting around doing nuttin'! So until I get my groove back - here's a concept piece I did last year in work.

Juicy Fruit

So after sitting on my arse for days with nothing to show for it and to not let this blog go stagnant, here's a picture I did for the Boulder Media blog a while back. It's the 'Juicy Fruit' scene from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

May Not Be Suitable For Adults

Okay, so I was Browsing in a dvd store last night and I picked up the fourth volume of the Looney Tunes Collection. I was looking through the special features at the back when I noticed a disclaimer 'for collectors - MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN'.
The Looney Tunes? Not suitable for children? Yeah, yeah, before you start, I know these cartoons where never made or tailored for kids, but I'd say they love them all the more for not being as condescending and cynical as most kids shows these days.
Children have grown up with these cartoons for over sixty years and NOW some people think they are not suitable! Who thinks this? Is it the same person that objected to Noddy and Big-ears sharing the same bed? Or maybe the person who felt the Cookie Monster was a bad role model(!) for their kids? Or maybe it was as simple as some superfluous marketing exec who, after sitting silently at the board room table for an hour needed to say something to feel valuable and blurted this rubbish out!
I'd be quite confidant that no child in the half a century that these cartoons have been on, has EVER been offended or have watched them to their own detriment.
It's the adults who convince themselves that they might not be suitable. Grown-ups who have this pre-concieved idea of offence and harm (and I'm not even gonna start on the fact that the same marketing person probably sat a child down in front of an hour of advertisements to see how they 'clicked'. Talk about 'harm'. sheeesh!)
I imagine a more appropriate disclaimer would have read 'MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR ADULTS'.
What an ultra-maroon! what a nincowpoop! rant over.

New/Old Indy

Did anyone see the cover of the new Vanity Fair? Harrison Ford still looks great in the role!

The Secret To A Great Relationship

It's an often discussed question, but I think I may have stumbled upon an answer. The couple pictured above climb on to my bus home from work every day. Both stinking of drink, they flop down on a seat and continue to piss themselves laughing for the duration of the bus ride. So what could be the secret of a great relationship? Booze?

Raiders Of The Lost Artwork

Okay, in my mission statement at the start of this blog I warned that the artwork may be peppered with the odd rant. we've been lucky so far, but I came across something a few weeks ago That I think is worthy of a post for the 'rant' section.
There's a small shop out our way that sells various knick-knacks and weird knock-off toys. amongst them I saw a 'Princess Tea Set' featuring all the Disney princesses but not one acknowledgement of it being a Disney product.
Anyway, below is a cheap cowboy hat that caught my eye. check it out.

Anything look familiar? In the top left corner? Okay, I'll give you a better hint...

NOW check it out...

See what I mean. Feckin' hilarious. The jig is up fellas, we've sprung ya! they flipped the drawing and scrawled a weird-ass beard on Indy. Nice cover up though guys. I'm gonna see if I can spot any more of these things, maybe make it a a regular feature of this blog. Rant over.

Severe Weather Warning

With severe weather warnings being issued on the radio all week, here's a scene from my bus stop a few days ago.
In other news, my second film, Beauty Now, has gotten into the New York Children's Film Festival, Juried by Susan Sarandon, Gus Van Sant among others.

The Cloverfield Monster

I might as well add to the speculation as to what the Cloverfield monster is gonna look like. I'm pretty confident I've hit the nail on the head with one of them at least!

Sweeney Todd

I trust we're all eagerly anticipating Tim Burton's latest? I saw a small stage production in Dublin a few months ago and it was bleedin' magic!

Wizard of Oz

Back to work after a great Christmas. One of the highlights was a screening of the Wizard Of Oz we saw in Dublin with a live orchestra. Flippin' deadly!
